Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We'd like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary adoptable pet every week. Today, we bring you Coco, a dog with special needs who is in search of an owner who will accept him for who he is.
The staff at New York's North Shore Animal League believe that a previous injury caused incontinence and bowel trouble for Coco, who was rescued from a municipal shelter in October through a collaboration between the Animal League and The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation.
Currently in the care of a loving foster parent, the 6-month-old terrier mix is thriving thanks to a little extra care. He has a fear of deep voices and imposing postures make him uneasy, so he must be slowly introduced to new people. Because of his bowel issues, he wears a doggy diaper – but it doesn't slow him down at all. Despite everything, Coco is a sweet pup, full of love for people and other dogs, like his current roommate Buddy.
"If he had his way, he would spend 23 hours in my lap (or my daughter's) and an hour playing," writes foster parent, Tammy. "He is a very happy guy, and he will make someone a wonderful lap dog and constant companion. The blue fleece he [wears] in his bed reads LOVED. And he surely is."
